Abstract

The elderly are a group vulnerable to various physiological changes and an increased risk of non-communicable diseases, including metabolic disorders related to cholesterol and uric acid levels. A lack of regular health monitoring can result in these conditions going undetected in their early stages. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to raise health awareness among the elderly through cholesterol and uric acid screenings—serving as an early detection measure for health issues—at the Siborong-Borong Social Service Unit for Children and the Elderly (UPT). The activity targets 30 elderly individuals residing within the UPT facility. The methodology encompasses coordination and preparation, participant registration, basic health assessments, blood pressure checks, cholesterol and uric acid screenings, the communication of results, health education, counseling, and evaluation. Education is provided on healthy dietary habits, physical activity suited to individual capabilities, health maintenance, factors influencing cholesterol and uric acid levels, and the importance of regular health check-ups. Evaluation is conducted via pre- and post-tests to measure changes in participants' knowledge, alongside the documentation of screening results. The activity is expected to enhance the elderly's knowledge and awareness regarding health maintenance, provide preliminary information on their cholesterol and uric acid status, and encourage participants to seek follow-up medical examinations at healthcare facilities if necessary. Furthermore, this initiative aims to support the implementation of the "Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi" (Three Pillars of Higher Education) and strengthen the role of Diploma III Nursing lecturers in community-based health promotion and disease prevention.
